PPA is undertaking what will be a transformative project for the whole of Del Norte County: development of a 1,000 seat multi-purpose performing arts venue on the campus of Del Norte High School.
The Del Norte Center for the Performing Arts will first and foremost be dedicated to supporting the arts education curriculum of Del Norte Unified School District (DNUSD). Designed to accommodate music, dance and theater, the Center will provide both rehearsal and performance space, as well as practice rooms, classrooms, and state of the art technical facilities. It will also serve to host major high school functions such as graduation, awards ceremonies, and other learning opportunities.
The Center’s mission will extend beyond the grounds of the school district. It will provide a dignified venue to host large civic programs, visiting government leaders and VIP’s, and community forums. The Center will provide a home for the region’s many professional and volunteer performing arts organizations, and a high-quality venue to attract visiting professional artists. Because of its inter-linked mission with the school district, visiting artists can be engaged to provide special learning opportunities for students.
The desire for Crescent City and Del Norte County to have a large, high-quality performance venue and gathering space, especially one to support the school district, has existed for several generations. In discussions with DNHS alumni and friends, it is frequently heard that this is a project that should have been done many years ago.
